Hi Paul,
I am currently a sophomore in college studying Communications. However, i’ve always been interested in acting. It’s safe to say i’m more of a beginners and unexperienced “actor”. So far I have taken two, film-acting classes. I want to start auditioning to get a feel for what it’s actually like, however I don’t have a resume or headshots. Would that be the next step for me?
Natalie- In order to get in the door you need a resume and a headshot. Even after the casting director decides to bring you in for an audition, the producer and director will have your headshot in their hands as they make the final decisions about whom to cast. The headshot/resume is the equivalent a business card for independent contractors in other industries. To gain experience I strongly recommend you either take classes/workshops or audition for any and every local theater production you can. Some of the skills for auditioning are the same for stage and film, and you need to build confidence in your skills in order to convince other people they can trust you when they hire you. I’m glad you’re checking out these seminarios. It shows you’re interested and eager to learn.
